Two trucks loaded with fertilizer bags for the "Plant for Food and Employment (PFJ)" program were impounded at the Paga border.

Each truck was carrying 2,000 (25 kg) of Planting for Food and Jobs brand fertilizer, bringing the total to 4,000 bags smuggled at the expense of farmers in the Upper East region.

The Upper East Regional Minister and Regional Security Council Chair Paulina Abayage congratulated the Paga border security agencies for their vigilance, saying that otherwise the Upper East region would have lost the amount of fertilizer seized.

She also congratulated the Secretariat "Plant for Food and Jobs" and the Ministry of Food and Agriculture for its initiative to mark the subsidized fertilizer this year, which will facilitate the seizure of fertilizers smuggled out of the country.

"The government spends a lot of money subsidizing fertilizer from farmers on the Planter for Food and Employment program, to enable them to produce more food for their communities and the country as a whole," he said. she said.

"Unfortunately, some people have decided to smuggle these subsidized fertilizers to the detriment of farmers in this country," she lamented.

"It's bad, and we're going to pick on anyone caught in the act of smuggling fertilizer. As long as I stay at the head of REGSEC and with the help of all the security agencies, the smuggling of fertilizer will be severely combated, "she said.
