Forty-four cases of fake COVID-19 vaccination certificates issued by a vaccination center in central Greece have so far been referred to a local prosecutor as part of an ongoing investigation, according to a local official health Monday.
Fotis Seretis, governor of the 5th health district, said the cases involve citizens who live in the Karditsa regional unit or in the wider region. A total of 31,296 vaccinations were performed by the health center in question, all using the Pfizer vaccine. It is still not known how many fake certificates have been issued.
According to press reports, the false documents were issued by an administrative employee who managed to access the electronic platform and registered the vaccinated people. The scandal was revealed when discrepancies were found on the printed certificates.
Authorities are also investigating the involvement of other employees of the Palamas health center.
Seretis said it is not known what happened with the doses of the vaccine that were allegedly used.
