Arsenal 's disappointing defeat at Everton has brought to light a number of glaring issues that will certainly have to be solved during the summer transfer period.
In recent weeks, Arsenal has been badociated with potential moves for a host of top players throughout Europe, but Unai Emery's limited transfer budget could indicate that these rumors are just that: rumors.
With this in mind, here are five supposed targets of Arsenal that the Gunners will certainly not sign this summer and should instead be considered.
Samuel Umtiti
After Dominic Calvert-Lewin intimidated Sokratis and
A flawless stay
However, rumors suggest that they will make an approach for central defender Samuel Umtiti, winner of the World Cup, this summer are, shall we say … ambitious? The Barca wants to bring Matthijs de Ligt, who could demote Umtiti a little further in the hierarchy, but that does not mean that the Blaugrana are going to let the 25 year old get away with it.
Alternative: Fernando Calero
With a release clause of 10 million pounds sterling in his name, it would be a surprise to see Fernando Calero stay at Real Valladolid this summer. The 23-year-old has impressed in his first Liga season, but his performances alone are not enough to pull his opponent out of a relegation battle.
Arsenal has been able to turn some less-known defensemen into leading players in the past, so there is no reason to think that this could not be the case with Calero.
David Alaba
Nacho Monreal is in decline, Sead Kolasinic turned out to be rather inconsistent and both players were very disappointing against the Toffees.
Bayern Munich recently beat Lucas Hernandez of Atletico Madrid for £ 68m, which casts doubt on David Alaba's future, but it's incredibly unlikely that he's on the move, in especially for Arsenal. The 26-year-old still has two years on his current contract and his versatility allows him to continue playing a vital role for the Bavarians.
Alternative: Robin Gosens
If Arsenal is looking for a left back who would not blow up the bank, he could do a lot worse than Robin Gosens of Atalanta.
The German has impressed for contenders to the Serie A Champions League and has been the radar of Milan and Naples. As long as their interest remains discreet, Arsenal could conclude a fairly cheap market.
Adrien Rabiot
Mohamed Elneny started his first match in the Premier League for over a year, but all that the Egyptian has managed to do has been to remind fans of Arsenal that they desperately need more strength deep in the middle of the park.
That almost guaranteed Adrien Rabiot to pack his bags this summer, but the claims that Arsenal is "strongly interested" by the whimsical Frenchman are rather exaggerated. There is virtually no chance he will settle in North London at Real Madrid and Barcelona, especially if the Gunners do not return among the top four.
Alternative – Morgan Gibbs-White
It remains to be seen what will be the Wolf transfer policy this summer. Nuno Espirito Santo has put together a wonderfully talented team, but that means of course that she is threatened with being singled out by the best European clubs.
Morgan Gibbs-White, one of the stars of the Under-17 World Cup triumph in England in 2017, was not a regular beginner to the XI, but he showed tons of promises and is clearly one for the future. His stock is only likely to increase, so it would be wise for the Gunners to review it as soon as possible.
The defeat at Goodison Park highlighted the fact that Arsenal is lacking in terms of options. If Emery tries to form a team with large and advanced men, he is often forced to lead midfielders or central strikers to the flanks with varying degrees of success.
Wilfried Zaha has been regularly badociated with a move to Arsenal or Tottenham through London in recent seasons. The Gunners would still be vying for the Ivorian signing this summer. Crystal Palace will not do anything but huge fees and the man himself seems to be happy to stay at Selhurst Park.
Nicolo Barella
Aaron Ramsey
The Gunners have been linked to the young Italian prodigy Nicolo Barella, but his current estimate far exceeds anything the Gunners can reasonably afford this summer, making the 22-year-old team a viable transfer target.
Alternative – Maximilian Eggestein
Eggestein has not yet proved himself for the German national team, but he has certainly turned the Bundesliga lead for the Werder Bremen this season and has been instrumental in his quest for a place in Europe next season.
With six goals and five badists in all competitions, the 22-year-old athlete's record is not far from Ramsey's, which indicates that it could be a perfect substitute. His current contract only remains for him a year, which could mean that he will be available for cheap.
