Gargoyle King spreads his wings on "Riverdale".
During the Wednesday episode of the CW series, the scary creature attacks Betty and Alice at her home, and it is revealed that he has a team of people doing his job. Betty is sent to Quiet Mercy's sisters for protection. But when she gets there, she sees that he also has an influence there.
Everything is not scary in the small town. Veronica helps exculpate Archie after finding evidence that the sheriff forced the witnesses to lie. But when Veronica awaits Archie's return, he calls and tells him he has to leave the city.
As always, CW's show included references to pop culture and comics. We worked with Archie Comics to find five details that you may have missed.
Jughead calls Betty Miss Marple.
Miss Marple is a character from the novels of Agatha Christie who solves crimes as an amateur detective.
Gargoyle King's scene in the Cooper's house is reminiscent of "Scream".
FP climbs up the ladder in Betty's room recalls Billy Loomis, played by actor SKeet Ulrich, did the same thing in "Scream". In one scene, she panics that Ghostface is in the house. He takes her in his arms and tells him: "He's gone, he's gone," while he looks with terror over his shoulder. FP does almost the same thing with Alice when she fears Gargoyle King is at home. The slight similarities are visible at the beginning of this video on YouTube.
The popcorn scene on the stove also recalls "Scream".
The song "Ballad of Paladin" plays on Archie and Jughead.
While Archie and Jughead walk the tracks, the song "Ballad of Paladin" from "Have Gun – Will Travel" plays on them. Guard Norton calls Archie "The Red Paladin".
The abandoned mines that Archie and Kevin will look like are similar to the "Chilling Adventures of Sabrina" mines.

The Greendale mines of the first season of Netflix's "Chilling Adventures of Sabrina" are sometimes called "The Devil's Gate" because they are said to be so deep that they can lead to hell. The abandoned Shadow Lake mines seem equally spooky, but this time, the symbols of the Gargoyle King are hanging on the walls. There is still no connection between the Gargoyle King and the devil, but who knows what is possible in the future.
The episode calls "Manhunter".
"Manhunter" is a 1986 horror film about the work done by the FBI to catch badbadins. It was adapted from the novels "Hannibal Lecter".
