The honor was to thank the officers for their courage, patriotism and dedication.
The Immigration Service paid tribute to five officers whose vigilance prevented the smuggling of fuel on unapproved routes along the country's borders.
Officers include Akanu Sector Commander, Chief Superintendent Godson Attobrah and Field Superintendent Assistant Superintendent Augustus Okyere. Others are Inspector Samuel Ampofo, Deputy Inspector Kofi Asante and Deputy Immigration Control Officer 1, Israel Gidisu.
On July 8, four of the honored officers intercepted volumes of oil products smuggled through an unapproved road along Akanu's borders in the Volta region, while the other officer was determined to the cleanliness of the environment inside and around the national headquarters of GIS.
A certificate, an undisclosed amount and a plaque were presented to each by the CGI, the Deputy Comptroller General and the Head of the Department of Border Management, Commissioner Isaac Owusu Mensah.
Kwame Asuah Takyi, Comptroller General of Immigration (CGI), gave a speech Monday at a ceremony at the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) headquarters in Accra, to brag about their courage , their patriotism and their dedication.
He noted that the state's congratulations to the management of the service should embody the agents who were at the heart of the case.
"When glory comes, it usually goes to the leaders. Glory should also go to the officers, "he said.
"They could have taken money and allowed them to leave," he added.
The CGI indicated that management recognizes the efforts of the officers, hence the ceremony to show their appreciation.
"The management and I recognize what you have done and give you this pledge to show our appreciation," he said.
Ms. Judith Dzokoto-Lomoh, Assistant Comptroller General for Finance and Administration, expressed gratitude to the members of the Bureau for not only their friendship, but also their vigilance at the borders.
She congratulated them for their dedication and professionalism and encouraged them to do more. "More fat on her elbows," she added.
Ms. Dzokoto-Lomoh explained that they were honored that other officers knew that their good deeds were imitated.
For his part, the Assistant Comptroller General for Command and Operations, Mr. Laud Kwesi Affrifah, called for the urgent need to staff the Border Patrol Unit of the Service.
He explained that a group of border patrols with sufficient resources would greatly help to limit resource leaks.
