The Standard Chartered Women in Technology Incubator (SC-WITI) program provided 57,000 each in seed funding to five women-led companies to expand their businesses.
The incubator program is managed in Ghana by Standard Chartered Bank, in partnership with the Ghana Climate Innovation Center at Ashesi University.
The digitally staged event due to covid restrictions rewarded the five start-ups that turned out to be the winners of a pitch event.
The five were selected from a shortlist of 14 start-ups that completed a four-month entrepreneurial skills training course during the first phase of the program.
Speaking at the ceremony, Alikem Adadevoh, General Counsel at Standard Chartered, said: “Our sincere congratulations to the five award winners on their well-deserved success. As a bank, we believe that empowering women-owned businesses is crucial to boost Ghana’s economic development and accelerate progress towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
“We are excited to be able to provide opportunities for women-led businesses to grow and reach their entrepreneurial potential through our Women in Technology program, and we look forward to seeing their business grow. “
In addition to seed funding, companies will benefit from portfolio management support over the next 10 weeks, exposure to potential investors seeking to support the development of women-led businesses, and will also join the global network of SCWIT alumni where they will have access to other networking events, resources, content and business development opportunities.
