A 5 years child in Blagoevgrad died after influenza the symptoms quickly turned into pneumonia, national chief health Inspector Dr. Angel Kunchev said Focus News Agency.
"For the moment, I can only say that it was influenza with complications of pneumonia. Sometimes these complications are very fast and serious, [develop] within 24 to 48 hours, become incompatible with life, cause severe respiratory failure and lead to death, "said Dr. Kunchev.
As influenzaThe symptoms of pneumonia are fever, fatigue, headache, cough, but instead of subsiding in 2-3 days, they tend to worsen and the condition of the person is getting worse, although it is still not pneumonia, explained Dr. Kunchev. He stressed that patients should not self-diagnose or self-treat, they should consult a doctor.
He said that timely vaccination, the best prevention, was rare in Bulgaria, only 4-5% of the population opted for vaccination. Although vaccines do not protect 100% against influenza infection, they protect against complications, he noted.
