Government Railroad (GRP) police on Tuesday arrested an alleged corpsman and recovered 50 human skeletons at Chapra Station in India's Bihar Saran district.

The arrested man, identified as being Sanjay Prasad, was traveling in Balia-Sealdah Express.

A GRP official suspects that the skeletons, brought from Balia in Uttar Pradesh, were to be smuggled into China via Bhutan.

Prasad was interrogated and his mobile contacts were also scanned, they said.

Sonepur's Deputy Commissioner of Police (Rail), Mohammad Tanvir, said that the GRP men also recovered Nepal and Bhutan's currency, numerous debit cards, two identity cards and cards. SIM with mobile phone numbers from Nepal.

One of the ID cards bears the address of Paharpur, west of Champaran, while the second map was issued in New Jalpaiguri, West Bengal, the DSP announced.

"The GRP will request that the arrested person be remanded in court on Wednesday," Tanvir said.

Another officer, asking for anonymity, said that there was a huge demand for skeletons among medical students. The arrested man was interrogated to look for information about other people involved in smuggling skeletons and to determine if he had links with people from Nepal and Bhutan, did he? he declares.

"The seizure of foreign currency is a sure indication that the tentacles of the racket could spread abroad," said the official.

In 2009, Saran police seized more than 67 human skulls on a bus and arrested a smuggler. In April 2004, 1,000 skulls and other parts of human carcbades were seized near the Falgu River in Gaya.
