50% of civil servants are overpaid – Prof. Adei | Social

Professor Emeritus Steven Adei, chairman of the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC), said that half of Ghanaians working in the public sector do not deserve their salaries.

In fact, he insists that a significant number of Ghanaians overpay their wages by juxtaposing their work performance.

Speaking on Starr FM, Professor Adei said that the attitude of Ghanaian workers remains one of the worst in the world.

"I think most Ghanaians are overpaid, I can tell you that more than 50% of civil servants do not earn their salary. They go to work and have not worked to earn it, so do not talk about such a low wage because it is tied to productivity and production, "he said.

Professor Adei explained that if we said that if I had given what I needed to work, I would have worked, then you got fired yourself.

Professor Adei also took a lot of trouble at work, describing persistent calls for a salary increase due to inflation and the cost of living as low.

Instead, he advocates a tripartite productivity meeting between the government, the employment sector and the Congress of Trade Unions.

"I want a tripartite meeting where public sector workers say we are in the process of reaching an agreement with the government. Over the next three years, we will strive to double government revenues. In doing so, you will increase our salaries by 75%. This is the type of tripartite link between wages and productivity.

"But come and say that there has been inflation and therefore increase my salary; if there is inflation and you have not produced, everyone must be poorer, "said the economist, professor of leadership and governance.
