EE launched his service with a Stormzy concert
EE has launched the UK's first new generation 5G mobile network, with a Stormzy rapper streaming from a ship on the Thames.
5G mobile networks offer faster downloads, but customers will need a new phone to take advantage of it.
At first, the service will only be available in restricted areas of Belfast, Birmingham, Cardiff, Edinburgh, London and Manchester.
His rival Vodafone plans to activate its 5G service in the coming weeks.

The cheapest offer of EE is £ 54 per month, plus a one-time fee of £ 170 for a compatible device. But this only includes 10 GB of data per month, which can be used quickly if you download a lot of movies or games.

On Thursday morning, BBC Breakfast aired for the first time in the UK 5G live information.

Many information channels are currently linking multiple 4G connections to broadcast video over mobile networks.
But using the 5G network, BBC tech correspondent Rory Cellan-Jones was able to broadcast in high definition with a single Sim card.
5G is not just about faster Internet speeds. It also offers lower latency than 4G connections: it means less time between sending a request and getting an answer.
For Rory, that meant a shorter delay between hearing a question in his headset and the response live on television.
A technical problem has delayed the broadcast of Rory. The test transmissions that made it possible to process the data on the Sim card required a complement for Rory to be able to switch to BBC Breakfast.
The 10 GB data cap offered by EE to its cheapest rate plan therefore seems somewhat limiting – although, according to EE, this ceiling was reached after several days of transmission testing.
