A 6-foot-1 woman has revealed how she and her 5-foot-6-inch boyfriend avoid daytime dating and go shopping at night to avoid nasty comments and stares from strangers.
Leeds resident Venessa Davis, 27, suffers from Marfan syndrome, a genetic condition that results in abnormally long limbs.
Davis said the height difference between her and her partner David Brown often attracts unwanted attention to them on streets and public places.
Strangers often stare at them and sometimes make cruel remarks. Because of this, they often had to put up with a lot of strain on their relationship when they met eight years ago.
“People would ask me what I do with him and tell me to find a man and someone taller. It really hit his manhood and if anything, he is no longer a man because he never leaves not bother him, ”Davis said.
“People think they can say what they like but don’t see why it would be offensive. It strained our relationship. We were going shopping at night rather than day,” she said. added.
Davis said she often heard people say that Daniel had a lot of money and that’s why she chose to be with him.
But over the years, the couple have learned to face cruel remarks and now ignore any negative comments about their relationship, insisting that they are a proud couple.
“At first the comments and stares bothered us. We got stares and comments all the time, it was like being famous for no reason,” Davis said.
The two first met when Daniel moved into Davis’ apartment block. Despite all the difficult situations they have faced, they are still going strong.
“We are called Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman but hopefully without their ending,” Davis said.
