A Sudanese court has sentenced six members of a paramilitary group to death for killing protesters during protests in 2019 over fuel and food shortages.
The shooting of six protesters, including four schoolchildren, sparked days of violent protests across Sudan.
Handing down the sentence, Judge Ahmed Hassan al-Rahma said the six members of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) used unnecessary and excessive force during the protests in July 2019.
The six are sentenced to be hanged, but under Sudanese law they can appeal.
Another RSF member was taken to a juvenile court because he was under 18 at the time of the protests.
One of the accused was acquitted.
