The Ministry of Energy has announced a 44% increase in local content and local participation in the oil sector upstream of Ghana.
Energy Minister John Peter Amewu, in an address to reporters on Tuesday, February 5, 2019 during the Meet The Press series of the Ministry of Information, revealed that at the end of the month as of September 2018, about 600 indigenous Ghanaian companies were registered with the Petroleum Commission. , providing goods and services to businesses in the oil and gas sector.
According to him, the total value of contracts awarded to Ghanaian companies and joint ventures during the period amounted to 799 million dollars, or 44%.
Of this amount, the minister explained, contracts totaling $ 453 million were awarded to Ghanaian indigenous businesses, while joint ventures accounted for $ 346 million.
In addition, Aker Energy, he said, awarded contracts worth $ 40.3 million to joint venture companies in accordance with their local contractual obligations.
