Canadian health officials warn the population of a salmonella outbreak that has affected dozens of people in several provinces.
To date, 63 diseases have been reported in six provinces: British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario and Quebec.
According to the Public Health Agency of Canada, the age of those affected ranges from one to 87 years old. In total, 18 people were hospitalized.
Two deaths were reported, however, it was not determined whether Salmonella was a contributory cause.
The source of the outbreak has not been identified.
"Epidemic investigators gather information about possible sources. The epidemic seems to be continuing and the diseases continue to be reported, "said the agency in a public health newsletter.
Anyone can develop a salmonella infection, but infants, children, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems are at higher risk for serious illness because their immune systems are fragile.
"Most people who get sick from a Salmonella the infection will heal completely after a few days. It is possible that some people are infected by the bacteria and do not get sick or have any symptoms, while being able to transmit the infection to others ", warns the bulletin.
