EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – A 20-year-old man is the sixth person to get tested for measles in El Paso.
The Department of Public Health of the city of El Paso confirmed the case in a statement released Wednesday afternoon.
If you have visited the following places at the time indicated, the authorities ask you to consult a doctor to make sure you are properly immunized against the virus.
- Sunday, July 21, 19: Walmart at Cielo Vista (7101 Gateway Blvd W) at 2 am
- Tuesday, the 23/07/19: Main Clinic of the Department of Veterans Affairs (5001 N. Piedras), from 9h to 17h.
- Tuesday, 07/23/19: Walmart at Cielo Vista (7101 Gateway Blvd W) at 6 pm
"We can not stress enough the importance of measles vaccination. This is our best defense and has been proven for more than 50 years worldwide, "said DPH Director Robert Resendes in a statement.
The vaccination clinics of the Ministry of Public Health are open from 7:00 to 18:00. From Monday to Friday. They are located at:
- Central El Paso (5115 El Paso Drive)
- Henderson (721 South Mesa Street)
- Ysleta (110 Candelaria road).
"Measles is transmitted by coughing and sneezing, and the disease usually begins with fever, cough, runny nose and red eyes," the statement said. "These symptoms are followed by a rash that extends from the head to the hands and feet. This highly contagious respiratory disease can live in an airspace where an infected person has spent up to two hours. "
