Seven Chinese nationals involved in illegal mining in Ghana were arrested by the monitoring team of the Interministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM).

Among them, a woman was arrested on Friday in the Upper Denkyira West district and Nkasim near Goaso, in the Ahafo region, as part of two separate operations.

Three Ghanaians who supported their operations were also arrested.

The operation led by the head of the task force, Francis Assibi Abu, also seized a number of equipment after more than three hours of hideout.

Since then, they have been handed over to the Obuasi Police Command, in the Ashanti region, for further action.

They must be treated and sent to the immigration headquarters in Accra for further action.

Mr. Assibi Abu explained that the operation followed a report from some residents.

The Chinese were operating mines between Mfantseman-Takyikrom in the Upper Denkyira West Upper District and Hwidiem-Nkasim in the Ahafo area, respectively.

He added that his team had to mobilize quickly to repress them.

Mr. Assibi Abu urged the public to voluntarily provide information to help eliminate such characters from the system.
