The death of seven members of a Catholic church in Akosombo, in the East region, was confirmed in an accident that occurred in Asitey, in the suburb of Odumase Krobo.
Several others have also suffered various types of injuries.
The victims, three men and four women, were part of a group of more than 50 people returning to Akosombo after a funeral at Akim Oda.
They died on the spot after the bus they were traveling on dived into a valley on Asitey Mountain.
The wounded, about forty in number, were admitted to St. Martin De De Pores hospital in Odumase and to the Atua government hospital, where they receive medical care.
An eyewitness told Joy News that it was difficult to save the victims.
"We were told that the brake had failed and that the car had plunged into the valley. We went to the valley to help them and we realized that seven people were dead and others seriously injured. We then took them to the hospital, "he said.
Ebenezer Tei Larbi, MP for the region, called the accident "very serious" and blamed the accident for careless driving.
"The problem on this road is that the drivers are sometimes very reckless because I spoke to those who were in the vehicle, to pbaders-by and drivers who met the vehicle en route and who said that the driver was driving too fast.
"A Hyundai driver told me that he had even warned the driver who had ignored his advice. I do not think this is the first time the driver involved in the accident is using this route, "he said.
