As one of the most popular series of HBO approaching its grand finale, the Veep The race for the presidency is warming up more than ever. Selina Meyer is obviously the main axis of the series and the idea that the unsustainable Jonah Ryan could end up winning more and more traction. But there may be a third possibility that would fit in with the ridiculousness of the entire series – I officially hope that Richard will become President the Veep.
There are some who have noticed Richard's potential at the top – especially after the last episodes, Twitter started to buzz with the possibility. Selina is the subject of an investigation for war crimes, after all. I know that our current political landscape is so banana that we think anything is possible, but that kind of thing could really get her out of the race.
Could you imagine What shape would Selina bring if the wacky, lovable, unsuspecting girlfriend who had been sidelined in recent seasons had reached the highest seat in power after all she had done to get there? It would be a glorious sight to see. Maybe she would even end up becoming Richard's vice president, ending the show as she had started: disappointed, shot down and in a position where she can not stay. It would be almost as well perfect.
There are many signs that Richard is on his way to the summit:
He is a great mayor
He handled the crash of the plane earlier this season dramatically and even saved a person from destruction. An on-the-ground experience helping ordinary Americans? Check!
He is constantly put forward
Has anyone noticed that Richard is climbing the political ladder incredibly quickly? He leaves his position as mayor to go to a position at the Attorney General's office, and it seems that the series could sow the seeds for something bigger. If he continues at this rate, who knows where he will finish?
He knows all the right people
The circle of Selina Meyer, of which Richard is a long-time member, is filled with people ready to seize the opportunity to return to first place. If Amy and Dan suspect that Richard has a chance to fight, they will have his back and he will also have time to play in front of many basic Washington, DC items. He may also have Selina by his side, he may have a serious credit in the street.
He is (almost) a pro to be sworn in
Come on, look how serious he is! I need to see him take an oath with a bubbling Selina by his side.
He probably has no skeleton in his closet
I can totally fool myself, but Richard does not seem to have any secrets that could derail a political career. As far as we know, there is no bribe, conspiracy or crime in his past, as Selina does. If people with secrets to keep can go to the top of the government without being sabotaged or denounced, it is certain that someone who is perfectly clean can do it too.
He notices the little things
Richard would probably not even need a Gary figure in his life. He really likes to get to know the little details of the people with whom he would probably walk during parties reminiscent of the names of children's representatives without any problem.
He loves his country
I can totally see Richard happily strolling through the 50 US states, seeing every bbad tourist and greeting every farmer, banker and businessman with the genuine joy that Selina would never have had.
OK, OK – Richard going to the Oval Office may be a long throw, but I still insist that this is the perfect way to end the show. It seems that the series must end with the implosion of Selina, which would be particularly insulting. It would also deflect the idea that Jonas is a satire for Trump and that he will inevitably be President – it's a smart idea, of course, but it may be a little too predictable.
In the end, Richard's presidency would allow Veep leave to its viewers a hint of hope for America while denying a victory to its greatest anti-hero.
