RAWALPINDI: The Rawalpindi Regional Health Authority has recommended that the Ministry of Health recruit 700 new staff members for polio immunization at the city's ports of entry.

According to the recommendation of the District Health Authority's office, it was mentioned that, although the city of Rawalpindi is polio-free, the environmental sampling reports revealed the presence of the polio virus. The director general of the regional health authority said that the anti-polio campaign for children under 5 began on February 16 in the district of Rawalpindi with special attention for the 16 councils of the union. , targeting children under 10, will continue until March 1st.
He added that during the campaign, special attention would be given to homes that had previously refused to vaccinate their children as well as to homes where children would be unavailable.
He added that if a child was away from home and did not go or go elsewhere, the polio vaccination teams working in that area would be informed.
Children under the age of 10 will be given polio drops in the Rawalpindi Municipality's 16 Trade Union Councils (RMC) and the Rawalpindi Cantonal Council Board (RCB) from 19 February.
The nine-day trip will continue until February 27th.
Chaudhry Muhammad Hussain, in charge of the anti-polio campaign, said that they had the habit of limiting the campaign against polio to children under 5 years old.
But this time, the government has decided to expand its network by including children under the age of 10 and to adopt a zero tolerance policy for administering polio immunization.
He added that environmental samples had been tested positive for the polio virus consecutively in the last eight months in the city, which triggered an alarm.

During the campaign, Hussain said the polio teams would administer the vaccine to children in 10 union councils in the city of 3 to 11 years old and UC 37, while six quarters of cantonments would also be targeted, including quarters 3, 9 and 10..

At the same time, sources from the district health department said that Rawalpindi was polio-free, highlighting the absence of children infected with the polio virus in the city for years.
