A South Texas family is looking for answers after their son's sudden death from flu symptoms.
Relatives of 8-year-old Martin Campbell said that he had started feeling sick Sunday. He died a few hours later.
"It started as an ordinary fever," said his mother, Jasmine Solis. "By the time help arrived, it was already too late."
According to the KIIITV in Corpus Christi, Martin's mother said he took her to the ER on Sunday night. They gave him flu shots and sent him home.
Shortly after, family members noticed him turning purple. he died after a cardiac arrest at the hospital.
A fundraiser takes place Saturday in the family's hometown, Rockport.
The Centers of Disease Control say that the flu season is far from over. Their latest figures show that influenza activity continues to increase across the country.
Since their last weekly report, three states have been added to the number of people in high activity. Texas joined this list last month.
