82% of LPG stations dangerous for life, property

According to the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), about 67 of the 81 central region LP gas stations would pose a high risk to life and property.

This figure represents about 82.7% of gas stations located in the region after a risk badessment exercise of all LPG outlets in the region, said Regional Minister Kwamena Duncan.

He said at a public meeting organized by the NPA on the cylinder recirculation (CRM) model of LPG distribution in Cape Coast, the capital of the region, on Tuesday, July 16th.

The baptized event; "CRM: creating more jobs, securing our future" was part of a national exercise to raise public awareness of the policy and its contributions to the successful implementation of the policy to meet the needs of the consumer.

According to the badurances given, all high-risk stations will have their points of sale converted to bottle distribution centers as part of the customer relationship management system "while low-risk stations will be considered only as service stations. filling with natural gas ".

Mr. Duncan badured that the government was aware of the local content law which stipulates that "such an undertaking must be entirely reserved for Ghanaian participation in shares". non-Ghanaians will not be allowed to operate under this model. "

Addressing participants, Mr. Samuel Asare Bediako, coordinator of the Unified Oil Price Fund at NPA, who represented the Director General, recalled that more than 4,500 direct jobs would be created at the launch of CRM.

He added that the purpose of the customer relationship management system was to guide the marketing and distribution of LPG in a safe and efficient manner, in order to facilitate better access to LPG at the national level.

He also said that he also aimed to ensure safety and good environmental practices in the production, marketing and consumption of LPG, and "to ensure the sustainability of local supply and content and the participation in the LPG subsector in accordance with the downstream local content policy ".
