The Catholic Archbishop of Paris, Michel Aupetit, announced that the total funds raised so far to finance the reconstruction of the cathedral damaged by fire represents a little more than five percent of the amount promised.

Fanck Riester, the French Minister of Culture, estimated at 850 million euros the total amount pledged to the reconstruction fund.

This week, the Catholic Archbishop confirmed the receipt of 38 million euros. But he said that he remained confident that more money will be forthcoming. "It always takes time to get money from big contributors," he said.

Four separate organizations are responsible for raising the proposed funds for the reconstruction fund. These are the Center des monuments nationaux, the Notre-Dame Foundation, the Heritage Foundation and the Fondation française.

Aupetit, Archbishop, explained that the immediate work undertaken to protect the damaged structure and the salaries of the staff currently on site was paid on a fund of four million euros collected by a group called the Friends of Our Lady. This group was created to ensure the renovation of the cathedral before the catastrophic fire.
