Some trucks seized
The Sekondi-Takoradi Municipal Assembly said it seized nine trucks used by a quarry company whose activities had triggered a water supply crisis in the metropolis.
The trucks were loaded with blocks of stone from mining activities in the Anankore River. This river is the main source of water for the Inchaban WWTP of Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) in the western region.
GWCL's regional management found that its daily water production had dropped from 4 million gallons to about 1.4 million liters and found that this was due to Osamduodu's quarry business.
Following the information reported by Ina-Thali Quansah, Joy News' Western regional correspondent, the city's general manager moved to the site on Tuesday.
He was accompanied by officers of the Municipal Assembly and a soldier. Some truck drivers blocked after meeting the team, the reporter said.
One generator and three water pumps were seized and six car batteries were removed from the trucks.
According to the reporter, the company Osamduodu Quarry uses rocks and rocks for the construction of a defense wall in Takoradi.
She reported that the company insists that it is authorized by the Minerals Commission.
