A 94-year-old Chicago man who had missed his high school diploma because of World War II went through the scene in his old school to accept his degree 76 years later.

William C. Wagner stated that he had not graduated from Tilden High School in 1944, but that his son, Forrest Wagner, had secretly organized the issuance of a diploma to his father on time for his birthday in March.

"I was in the last half of my senior year," Wagner told WLS-TV. "They told me to take history and civics clbades to get my degree, I went to the editorial board and they said:" Punk you have a number, you have to go. "

Wagner crossed the stage on Thursday with the 2019 promotion from Tilden High School.

"Seventy-six, yes, it took me so long to graduate," Wagner said. "Instead of crossing four years."

Wagner is not the oldest person to have graduated from high school – Fred Butler, 106, graduated from the Beverly High School in Mbadachusetts in 2013, close to a century after leaving school in eighth grade to help his family.
