Barcelona's attack on Ajax defender Matthijis de Ligt is in full swing and Manchester United could take advantage of it.
The Spaniards were the first to sign the talented defender, who played the leading role as Ajax reached the semi-finals of the Champions League.
Barca met De Ligt and his agent, Mino Raiola, in April, and reportedly agreed on a satisfactory financial program for all parties.
However, Sport has now claimed that the Dutchman had gone back on this initial agreement and was trying to improve his conditions.
Manchester United, Bayern Munich and Juventus have all been reported to have better pay, but De Ligt's preference would be to play at Nou Camp.
Barca is refusing to change for the moment, keeping to what he agreed last month, and this setback could give United a hope in their pursuit of the Dutch international.
And the Red Devils have raised the bar in the ongoing showdown for De Ligt, according to the Catalan publication Sport.
Most of the other outlets are still waiting for the 19-year-old Ajax skipper to join Barcelona, but Sport says United has "significantly improved" its offer to tempt a player who has already become one of the stories of the summer transfer window.
Sport points out that Barca's optimism has weakened with the signing of De Ligt, who could join his Ajax teammate Frenkie de Jong at Nou Camp next season.
The teenager has already already rejected a proposal from United, who is desperate to reorganize his team this summer after a disappointing campaign in which he was absent from the Champions League for 2019-20.
De Ligt promises to be a tough player to convince to join the club, with suggestions that the Dutch has doubts about a Premier League decision among the wealth and status proposed at Nou Camp.
