Celtic "talks" with shocked German boss as Neil Lennon gets closer to release | Football | sport

Celtic has been actively seeking to replace Neil Lennon in recent months as they refuse to offer the Northern Irishman a permanent contract.

Lennon may have won nine of his 13 games since replacing Brendan Rodgers in February, but he's unlikely to stay at the club next season.

Michael Kollner was fired by Nürnberg in February. His former club finished at the bottom of the Bundesliga.

According to the German Bild outlet, the 49-year-old man had talks with the Scottish champions and Swansea City, but he declined to comment on the links.

Although Lennon's future is at stake, the 47-year-old is confident that he will be in the direction of next season – but it may not be in Scotland.

"I want to get by," Lennon said before Saturday's Scottish Cup final against Hearts.

"Take a vacation first, then examine things and see what they contain.

"I really enjoyed the last three years being back in Scotland. I've had a lot of success at both Hibs and Celtic.

"I enjoyed this experience immensely and it was very beneficial for me. If it is not to be Celtic, I hope a new challenge elsewhere.

"I'd love it [if I stayed on at Celtic]. It's a privileged position, I've already done it. "

Asked about the discontent around the club in recent weeks, Lennon has confirmed the work he has done this season with a team that is not "his."

He added: "It 's not my team, it' s Brendan and it 's not my style of play, that' s Brendan.

"People say," The performances are not the same ". If I had gone there and changed things and it had not worked, I would have made a big mistake.

"It was important to convince the players to win the league.

"Training, everything, we kept the same thing. You must put the players first.

"It's an important part of the club's history that they could achieve here."
