Tychy: The FIFA U-20 World Cup Qatar 2019 will take place in Poland. Nigeria beat the West Asians 4-0 in their opening game of Group D at Tychy Stadium on Friday.

The Flying Eagles, finalists from Portugal powered by Joao Pinto in 1989 and Argentina inspired by Lionel Messi in 2005, took a 2-0 leap in 25 minutes – and both goals were indebted to their left-back.

Ikouwem Utin fooled his marker and fired a deflected shot that Shehab Mamdouh could only push on the way to Maxwell Effiom, whose first volley helped get out of the stalemate in the 12th minute.

Nigeria # 3 then took up four challenges on the left and reduced the ball backward to give Okechukwa Offia a comfortable finish at close range in the 24th minute.

Qatar had a chance. Zulkifilu Rabiu was catapulted onto Tychy's turf to score an outstanding block from Yusuf Abdurisag, and Nigeria's goalkeeper Olawale Oremade was ready to break a three-to-one break for which Qatar should have done more.

They were then punished. Manchester City midfielder Tom Dele-Bashiru made it 3-0 in the 68th minute, before Aliu Salawudeen's pivot and 74th-minute shot just finished the win.

The teams are back to play Monday, while Qatar faces Ukraine and Nigeria, USA. Ukraine beat the United States 2-1 in their match on Friday.

The Republic of Korea and Saudi Arabia, reigning champions of the AFC African Under-19 Championship, will open their respective campaigns on Saturday.

The Republic of Korea will face Portugal, two-time winner, in the group F, while Saudi Arabia will face France, champion in 2013, in the group E.

Japan, meanwhile, struggled after scoring a goal tied with South American champions Ecuador in the first leg of Group B on Thursday.

The next match for Japan will be Mexico on Sunday, while Ecuador will face Italy, leader of Group B, the same day. The Italians beat Mexico 2-1 on Thursday.
