Two Libyan journalists detained by an armed group for more than three weeks have been released, the television channel they are working for said Saturday.
"We congratulate the world of the press for the release of our two colleagues, Mohamad al-Gurj and Mohamad al-Chibani, kidnapped by Haftar forces on May 2 while covering the Tripoli badault" said Libyan private channel Ahrar, which is based in Turkey.
He said that they were released on Friday.
The southern suburbs of the capital was the target of an offensive launched on April 4 by Khalifa Haftar, a military strongman from an eastern administration, aiming to seize Tripoli from a government. nationally recognized national agreement.
At least 510 people were killed and about 2,500 wounded in the fighting, as well as more than 80,000 displaced people, according to UN agencies.
The television journalists were released following the local and international condemnation of their detention, including the media newspaper Reporters Without Borders (RSF).
In a press freedom index prepared by RSF, Libya ranks 162 out of 180 countries.
