Tim from The Office would be impressed – Martin Freeman is listed as a DJ of the BBC.
The star of Sherlock will be on 6 Music from mid-July and will replace Guy Garvey of Elbow's.
Disaster actor Rob Delaney will also enjoy playing "powerful rhythms" on Sunday afternoons.
Garvey enjoys a prolonged break in his upcoming 6 Music concert to work on his next album. Cillian Murphy, the star of Peaky Blinders, has been replaced since March.
Freeman, 47, who has made himself known as a "less performer", still lives with his parents and works in a "useless job" of mockumentary The Office nearly 20 years ago, will host the 14h show at 16 o'clock.
Paul Rodgers, director of BBC 6 Music, said, "Rob Delaney and Martin Freeman are both fantastic talents. I am delighted to join 6 Music, where they will be able to bring their love of music to our Sunday afternoons.
"I would like to thank Cillian Murphy, who has done a great job for Guy Garvey since March – the listeners have enjoyed listening."
The 42-year-old American comedian Delaney will host the show next month and said, "I'm excited to present on BBC Radio 6 Music."
He joked, "Whether you're listening to music while you're preparing dinner, gadgets or even that you like, I hope you'll do it at my mighty beats."
The latest show by Irish star Murphy, who said she had "a great time" on the station, will air on June 2.
Delaney will be on air from June 9 to July 7, while Freeman will present from July 14 to August 4. The shows will also be available on BBC Sounds.
