FDerby captain Michael Johnson thinks his manager, Frank Lampard, is on the brink of fame.
Lampard was linked to the former Chelsea club if the Blues lose Maurizio Sarri after Wednesday's Europa League final against Arsenal.
Lampard is Chelsea's top scorer and has won three Premier League titles at Stamford Bridge.
In his first season as a manager, he took Derby to the playoff finals of Monday's Sky Bet championship against Aston Villa.
But before the $ 170 million showdown at Wembley, Derby's ambbadador, Johnson, thinks Lampard could create a legacy at Pride Park.
"For us, and I know that there are rumors, but if we had the manager for the second year, I think anything is possible," he said.
"This is the beginning of an extraordinary journey for him, I only hope it will be with us." Frank was brilliant.
"No matter what happens, it's a great feat for the club to be where it is, so we hope we can now climb that last step."
The Guyanese boss Johnson is preparing for the Gold Cup in the United States next month but will be at Wembley after being in the last team to help Derby to be promoted in 2007.
The 45-year-old missed the playoffs due to injury, but played 29 times as a club captain this season.
He was also promoted to the Premier League in 2002, when Birmingham beat Norwich 4-2 on penalties.
"The memories of the play-offs are unbelievable for me," he told Press Association Sport.
"I had four or five attempts with Birmingham before getting up, and then again with Derby in 2007.
"It all depends on the emotion of the game and its responsible. It's a long season, the games of the spirit have begun to be played, but they all know the enormity of the # 39; occasion.
"They all know the financing of the opportunity and what that means – whether the club will have to cut or not – everyone knows what it means for a city.
"The one who will do it the best will beat the winners that day."
