inFAMOUS could have been very different
Sucker Punch, the developer of 2009 infamous, celebrates 10 years of playing by sharing a bunch of fun development facts about Twitter. Some of them include information on name changes, early combat concepts and – probably the coolest – a motorcycle parkour mechanic. Although some of them are quite minor, other changes, if kept, would have given rise to a game very different from what we had.
Look at them below:
1) The original title of inFAMOUS was True Hero. We have tried many titles and even at the E3 2007, we were waiting for the legal authorization for "inFAMOUS". We had a backup trailer ready with an alternative title just in case, but fortunately inFAMOUS was approved on time. pic.twitter.com/mqTHhh2jo3

2) In an earlier version, you could switch from your superhero outfit to a civilian garment by installing yourself in a phone booth. pic.twitter.com/YM0lteQ2Ep

3) At the beginning of the speech, the speech included super-heroic actions such as customizing buildings to give a neighborhood new types of stores to satisfy citizens. pic.twitter.com/8NGG11nGKv

4) At one point in production, before the hero's name was chosen, the studio gave him the nickname "Gearwolf" and his hairstyle was completely different. pic.twitter.com/D3z9R6NXXZ

5) The characters once spoke in a gibberish language and the interactions included emotes instead of a complete dialogue. pic.twitter.com/4zFeBri5jY

6) We experimented with the customization of light characters that allowed you to change your hair, your outfit, etc. pic.twitter.com/1xyKxXFm0R

7) During development, the hero could use telekinesis powers to draw "disposable" metal objects such as license plates, hubcaps, stop signs, and bicycle gears. in his hands to use them as weapons. pic.twitter.com/nyEbORvAEY

8) At some point, the hero could do stunts of vehicles, including a motorcycle race. pic.twitter.com/r0qeCSyotZ

9) We also experimented with the possibility of "skating" around the city using an invisible energy field. pic.twitter.com/ukHNWF3gkv

10) To this day, Zeke's voice is still the outgoing voice message of Sucker Punch. pic.twitter.com/r4xPIMNY8d

The development of games can be very tumultuous and it seems that inFAMOUS was no exception. I especially like the parkour bike mechanic (mainly because it looks so cool) but also skating. Even though I was really a big fan of the original when it was released, you wonder if Sucker Punch has kept some of these features, how different could the final product have been.
inFAMOUS was released on May 26, 2009 on the PlayStation 3. Its suite was released on June 7, 2011. Then, on the PS4, we have inFAMOUS: Second Son March 21, 2014 and the First Light DLC expansion in August. Since then, it's quiet enough for the series despite strong praise.
Sucker Punch is currently working on his next PS4 game, Ghost of Tsushima. Even if Sony will not be present at E3 next month, we still expect their first studios to announce some announcements.
