In the television show "Prince William at Thirty", uploaded to YouTube in June 2012, a student living in the room next to Kate's gave an interesting overview of the academic life of Prince William and his future wife. Helen McArdle said that the future Duchess of Cambridge was known as "Beautiful Kate" in their university residences. Kate and William both lived in St Salvator Hall at the University of St Andrews in first year. That's how they met and became friends.

Ms McArdle said: "I was in the room next to Kate Middleton in first year.

"She was known as" Beautiful Kate "almost from the first day."

"She quickly became very good friend with William and his friends from Eton – they seemed to form a very tight group."

Kate and William met a few days after arriving in St Andrews and quickly formed a strong friendship.

Jules Knight, an academic friend of William's, said: "Will and Kate could have become friends because Kate was the same year and in the same rooms, so they could develop their friendship."

Recalling the moment she realized that Kate and William were a couple, she described a moment of intimacy between the two that she spotted while she was in a bar in St Andrews .

She said, "When it comes to socializing, they went to some of the coolest bars in St Andrews.

"My Bells was a popular eating place for them, also known as Yah Bells in St Andrews.

"And I remember seeing them at the bar and pinching their bad, it was the first time I remembered to say," So, it's really a couple. "

She also recalled some incidents where Kate and William had too much practiced the academic tradition of drinking alcohol.

Ms. McArdle stated that one night, Kate was to be taken to her room by one of William's friends in Eton because she was "drunk paralyzed" and could not walk.

On another occasion, she said, William went home drunk and fell into a bush in front of their home.

William had to be "recovered" by his own bodyguards.
