Spill 4 of Weija Dam Most areas of the Weija enclave are flooded when the exercise is over.

The Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) has announced to the general public that it will open the Weija Dam shortly to release excess water as part of routine measures to prevent its bursting. .

Exercise is necessary because of recent heavy rains.

GWCL management stated that the water level was rising and was approaching the maximum threshold of 47 feet, hence the need to pour excess water.

"GWCL's management therefore wishes to inform the general public, as well as institutions or organizations with downstream properties, that the opening of the spillway gates can cause flooding," said Stanley Martey, Executive Director of GWCL. GWCL, said in a statement on Tuesday, May 28, 2019.

The utility provider therefore recommends that residents living near the dam evacuate to avoid the destruction of property and harm anyone.

Communities likely to be affected include Tetegu, Oblogo, Pambros Salt, Lower McCarthy Hill, Lower Weija, Bojo Beach, Ada Kope, Tsokome and surrounding communities.

GWCL management has said it has launched door-to-door public education in communities.

In this perspective, the company hired opinion leaders, chiefs, MPs, unit committee leaders and school heads to spread the message to residents.
