Brightening a Path: Solar Engineers Transform Communities in Zanzibar

Women attending Barefoot College in Zanzibar are learning about solar energy engineering, breaking with a tradition of well-established gender roles and marginalization of the workforce. They come from villages in East Africa where many homes are mainly fueled by candles and kerosene lamps. Women are resuming their training in their respective villages to find sustainable employment and to light homes that otherwise would not be able to connect to the traditional electricity grid.
