Real Madrid has overtaken Manchester United and has been named the most valuable European football club, with a value of about 3.22 billion euros (2.91 billion pounds sterling), according to KPMG.

The Spanish club tops KPMG's study on the "business value" of the larger teams.

The report, based on the 2016-17 and 2017-18 seasons, focused on profitability, broadcast rights, popularity, sports potential and stadium value.

The Champions League finalists Liverpool and Spurs are seventh and ninth in the standings.

And the Europa League finalists Chelsea and Arsenal are in sixth and eighth place.

Manchester City is fifth, which means that six English clubs rank in the top 10.

Celtic is the first Scottish club in the top 32 of KPMG's European clubs

Mr. Sartori added: "At league level, the English Premier League has confirmed its absolute dominance, with nine clubs among the top 32 and accounting for 43% of the total value."

The other three English clubs that fall outside the top ten are West Ham United, Leicester City and Everton.

Meanwhile, Inter Milan (15th) has gained five places and has become Italy's second most valuable club, thanks to a 41% increase in its company value.

This year, 13 clubs have been valued at more than 1 billion euros, one more than in 2018.

And eight clubs reported a company value exceeding 2 billion euros: five English Premier League, two from Spain and one from Germany.

The Spanish club Villarreal joined Celtic, for the first time in the top 32, while rivals La Liga, Valencia and Turkish Fenerbahce have abandoned.
