The Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) warns residents of the Weija Dam to evacuate the area to avoid any eventuality as it begins to dump excess water from the dam.
Communities likely to be affected include Tetegu, Oblogo, Pambros Salt, Lower McCarthy Hill, Lower Weija, Bojo Beach, Ada Kope, Tsokome and surrounding communities.
Homeowners and residents of the area have been encouraged to evacuate or take immediate precautionary measures to protect life and property.
A press release issued Tuesday and signed by the company's representative, Stanley Mantey, explained that the discharge of "excess water from Weija Dam as part of routine measures to protect it".
"With the arrival of the rains, the water level is rising and is approaching the safety level of 47 feet. Like all dams, its safe levels of operation are maintained to prevent possible collapse, "he said.
The GWCL therefore warns members of the general public, as well as institutions or organizations with properties downstream of the dam, that the opening of the weir doors may cause flooding.
"As a result, we urge people living in the communities downstream and along the buffer zone near the river to evacuate the area to prevent any eventuality in order to protect life and property," the statement said. .
The company launched a door-to-door outreach campaign and used community sound systems to warn them.
Opinion leaders, chiefs, badembly members, unit committee leaders, and school leaders have been briefed to help raise awareness among communities.
The Ghana Water Company reports that it is liaising with National Security to flush the estuary to allow easy flow into the sea.
