It is a powerful symbol of the threat that a simple laptop can pose to the world. The six Trojan horses, worms and malicious software have caused at least $ 95 billion in damage worldwide, according to Guo.
Guo is an Internet artist "whose work critically criticizes the extremely modern online culture of modern times," said the auction site organized by the cybersecurity group Deep Instinct. The computer, viewed via an online video stream, is harmless when it is auctioned: it is enabled, but is not connected to any network or the Internet.
The auction site says it's "down" – its wireless and internet connections are physically and electronically connected. But it is strongly advised to the buyer not to release his pathogenic programs – possible by disconnecting his material of connection or by simply inserting a key USB.
The website emphasizes that works of art are only intended for research, stating that anyone who has contracted by contract has agreed that it "had no intention of spreading malicious software".
At the same time, the site appeared to recognize that the buyer might not comply with the agreement. "Do not forget that there are real and dangerous malicious samples," he said. "Using them without constraint means that you will infect or infect others with vicious and dangerous malware."
