Amakye Dede was forced to crown Kuami Eugene's "King of the High Life"

Ghana Highlife legend Amakye Dede called on Ghanaians to stop blaming Amakye Dede for crowned Kuami Eugene as Ghana's next Highlife King at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards 2019 on May 18th.

According to Akwasi Aboagye, Amakye Dede was forced to crown Kuami Eugene on the stage. He explained that Kiki Benson, who was in charge of the artists' repertoire at the VGMA 2019, had earlier called to inform Amakye Dede that they would like him to crown Eugene Kuami on stage.

But Amakye Dede informed him that he could not do it, so he was surprised that the crown was imposed on him on the stage.

Akwasi Aboagye of Onua FM, based in Accra, said:

"Kiki Banson, the artist repertoire manager for this year's VGMA, called to inform him that as part of Amakye Dede's performance, they wanted him to crown Kuami Eugene and I told him that I had to talk to my artist.

"Amakye Dede did not support her when [I] informed him, so I was surprised to see him act against his will, "said Aboagye in an interview with Onua FM, based in Accra.

"So, those who watched this act will know that something is wrong. According to Amakye Dede, he was surprised to see a lady walking on stage to give him a crown, "he added.

Ghanaians have questioned Amakye Dede's right to make him the next Highlife king in Ghana. For critics, who crowns Amakye Dede to crown someone else?
