Michelle Obama shares the sweetest tribute to "Sesame Street"

Michelle Obama does not need help to know how to get to "Sesame Street".

The former first lady appeared and collaborated on the famous children's educational television show on numerous occasions in recent years.

And Wednesday, she was honored for her work with children with the Joan Ganz Cooney Award (named after the creator of the program) at Sesame Workshop's 50th Anniversary Benefit Gala in New York.

In response, Obama shared a sweet Instagram tribute on the show.

"There is something inexplicable going on there, a unique chemistry bubbling and you can not find anywhere else," she wrote. "There is nothing in the world that so beautifully combines boundless aspirations with simple goodness, nothing that denies daily madness and distraction, nothing that is so pure and hopeful – and absolutely essential to our future."

"Sesame Street" is produced by the nonprofit Sesame Workshop.

He often tries to tackle difficult or taboo problems. The episodes of recent years have included a character who is in foster care and another who is homeless. The show also helped explain the concept of stepfamily families to children.

In a statement issued before the event, Sherrie Westin, president of Sesame Workshop for Global Impact and Philanthropy, was honored "for all she has done to improve the lives of children."

"From fighting childhood obesity to supporting military families, to empowering girls around the world, Mrs. Obama is a tireless champion of children and families," said Westin.

Obama joined Elmo in 2009 to send a message on healthy eating at the time of planting a vegetable garden:

In 2011, she was accompanied by Jill Biden, then second lady, to send a message about support to members of the service:

And Elmo and Rosita joined Obama at the White House in 2014 to announce his "Let's Move!" Initiative.

There have been several other collaborations between Obama and the show. Model Chrissy Teigen and her husband singer-songwriter John Legend also attended the show on Wednesday.
