Airport Mahama Statue The statue of the late Major Adam Mahama at the Airport Hills roundabout

On May 29, 2017, a soldier fell, as did the hearts of the citizens.

Commander Maxwell Adam Mahama may not have been known before his horrific badbadination in Diaso, Denkyira Obuasi, but he stole the hearts of Ghanaians when he refused to pull the trigger to repel his murderers, who He had sworn to protect until his last death. breath.

His death was not ordinary! No, certainly not! The only death that had the country drowned in tears.

No matter the time, but the mention of this soldier, Maxwell Adam Mahama, brings a wave of sadness.

However, on Wednesday, his mention was the pride of Airport Hills management here in Accra.

For example, for management and some residents of Airport Hills, it is confusing to drive or walk past the Airport Hills roundabout and see the 20-foot memorial in memory of the soldier.

Exactly two years after his death, the government unveiled Wednesday a statue at Airport Hills roundabout to pay homage to the fallen soul.

The statue will remind Ghanaians of its history and the harshness with which it was murdered on May 29.

The Managing Director of Finali Limited, Airport Hills owner, Kofi Gbedema, said the statue reflected the story of the deceased soldier becoming a national hero. A story of milestones and achievements that impressed Ghanaians but cost them their lives at the same time.

It's a solemn moment in our history for all. A solemn moment indeed!

Ms. Esi Gbedema and her husband, Kofi, named the area about a 10-minute drive from Kotoka International Airport – the opposite Burmese camp – as Airport Hills, when they started developing the community at some point in 1995.

"It is truly humiliating that the statue was placed there and will serve as an eternal reminder to the late army officer who fell gallantly into the task," Esi Gbedema added.

"In reality, this roundabout has never been officially named Airport Hills Roundabout. Esi, executive director of Finali Limited, revealed during a conversation with Myjoyonline during the opening ceremony.

The roundabout was created a few years ago as a result of the government's decision to build the Congo Junction to Burma Camp road through Airport Hills and Flower Pot Junction on Spintex Road, which would serve as a replacement road to residents of East Legon and beyond.

The setting up of the statue is strategic because thousands of vehicles now use this route. Thousands of people will see the statue daily.
