Professor Michael Aaron Ocquaye, Speaker of Parliament, said MPs were not earning money in Parliament, contrary to the perception of some members of the public that they were rich.

The President commented in Parliament today after the House paid tribute to the late Dr. Kwabena Adjei, former majority leader in Parliament and former member of Biakoye, former NDC national president.

Professor Michael Aaron Oquaye noted with concern that many former members of parliament are not doing well financially and has described the issue as worrying.

"People do not have money here and are not central here. See the other members who left recently. . . we must look at reality and make arrangements for pensions and other aspects of the welfare of the honorable members, "he said.

According to Professor Michael Aaron Oquaye, Parliament is currently discussing with the State Insurance Company (SIC) a policy aimed at contributing to the financial protection of MPs. after their term in Parliament.

Dr. Adjei, former National President of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), died on March 12.

He will be buried this Saturday, May 31, 2019 in his hometown of Volta.

He was 76 years old.
