Norway's Erling Haland scored nine goals against Honduras, a veritable sleight of hand.

Norwegian striker Erling Håland had an unforgettable afternoon at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Poland, scoring nine goals as his team beat Honduras 12-0.

He opened the scoring in the seventh minute and added three more goals before half-time, including a penalty in the 36th minute.

His fifth goal came five minutes after the break, followed by four more while Honduras was reduced to 10, then to nine men – but only once they lost 7-0.

The big win put Norway third in Group C, waiting to see if they would qualify for the round of 16 as one of the top four teams in third place, taking three points with one more gap of eight goals.

New Zealand beat Norway 2-0 in their second group stage match, with central defenders George Stanger and Nando Pijnaker, managed to keep Håland alone. In their opening match, the Kiwis beat Honduras 5-0.

Håland's hat trick helped him to stand out in the Golden Boot race, six ahead of Colombians Juan Hernandez and Senegal's Amadou Sagna, who each scored three times.

Nine goals would have been enough to win the Golden Boot twice only at the Under-20 World Cup: Brazil's Adaílton scored 10 in Malaysia in 1997 and Argentina's Javier Saviola marked 11 at home in 2001.

Norway's 12-goal margin of victory is also the largest ever in a U-20 World Cup.
