Liverpool "continues to study" the possibility of further expanding Anfield, according to Reds chairman Tom Werner.

The Reds built their new main stand in the summer of 2016 and opened it against Leicester City, then champion of the Premier League, in September of the same year.

This has achieved an official capacity of 53,394 people, although it has long been suggested that the club seeks to increase further to reach a capacity of more than 60,000 people.

With the Reds in their second consecutive Champions League final and just coming off their best Premier League season, the demand for tickets to home games has never been so big.

And Werner said interim measures had already been taken to expand the stadium, which should know the next stage of development on the side of Anfield Road.

"We continue to study the feasibility," Werner told Liverpool Echo.

"We have planning permission to proceed if we go ahead and this authorization is valid until September.

"We continue to examine potential options and we will likely return to them in the weeks following the final."

In an interview with Echo, Werner also spoke about Jurgen Klopp's future in the club.

"We do not really want to discuss his situation publicly, especially if close to the final," he said.

"But I think you know we think of the world from him. We have already extended his contract once.

"All I can say is that it's obviously important that he stays as long as he wishes." We believe that he is engaged in Liverpool. "
