This year's measles epidemic is now officially the worst of the last three decades.

On Thursday, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced that 971 cases of the disease had been confirmed in the United States.

This is the highest number of cases reported in the United States since 1994.

It is also the strongest since the disease was declared eradicated in 2000.

And, according to the CDC, the "eradicated" status could be lost if an outbreak in southern New York continued until the fall.

Cases have been reported continuously for seven months.

According to the CDC, losing this status would be "a blow to the nation and erase the hard work of all levels of public health"

They urge everyone to get vaccinated if they can.
