Director of US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention visits Kyrgyzstan

AKIPRESS.COM – Director of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Robert R. Redfield, visited the Kyrgyz Republic on May 29 to learn more about CDC's activities and partnerships in Central Asia, especially those supported by the US President 's Emergency Plan. Kosmosbek Cholponbayev, Minister of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic, told Dr. Redfield at a meeting, "We have recognized the Center's contribution for many years to training our epidemiologists, reducing HIV / AIDS, and the development of clinical protocols for the prevention of influenza. We are ready to cooperate and adopt international practices adapted to local conditions. Dr. Redfield also visited the Republican Center against AIDS, the Republican Center for Narcotics and the Bishkek AIDS Center.

The CDC has supported public health activities in the Kyrgyz Republic since 1995 and works closely with the Ministry of Health on several important initiatives to combat HIV / AIDS and other infectious diseases. The CDC is also working with the Ministry of Health to build capacity for investigation and response to epidemics that affect the health of Kyrgyz citizens. All CDC activities in the Kyrgyz Republic are conducted in close cooperation with the approval and support of the Kyrgyz Government.

Director Redfield's visit is based on a series of official US visits aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and strengthening cooperation between the United States and the Kyrgyz Republic.
