MP displeases bad roads in Bia West

Dr. Augustine Tawiah, MP for Bia West, expressed dissatisfaction with the poor state of the roads in the region, saying that they were demanding the urgent attention of the government.

"Because of the bad roads in the area, the cocoa, wood and food that should be sent to Accra are locked up in the hinterland," Tawiah said.

Describing the North West region as the country's food basket, during an interview with reporters in Parliament, in Accra, he called on the government to build a tarmac road crossing the Bia region towards the surrounding towns of the North West region.

Dr. Tawiah said that the western North region experienced the heaviest rains during the rainy season, which put the region's inhabitants at a disadvantage.

He stated that the road linking Bentemaa to Osei Kwadwokrom, near the Ivorian border, was in a deplorable state, and that the road project had been entrusted to a contractor of the Cocoa Fund, but stopped for the reason of his audit.

"Now the whole road is in a terrible situation," said the MP, adding, "If you see that the amount of work that has been done and everything is lost now is terrible.

"We are not interested in any kind of politics, but we want people to be able to drive the roads of Bia West and be safe.

Mr. Tawiah recalled that Mr. Amoako-Atta, Minister of Roads and Highways, promised Parliament a few months ago that from January to March 2019 he would ensure that the road contract was signed and that what the contractor starts works on the road. from April 2019.

However, none of the badurances given by the Minister is currently working because the contract was not signed and no work started on the road.

Because of the bad roads, cocoa, wood and food from the region are all locked up in the bush.

"The people of Bia West were asking for nothing more, but said that the road from Osei Kwadwokrom to Bentemaa should be asphalted," said Dr. Tawiah.

In addition, since the Kwaboson, Bia East and West Districts were created, there were no more paved roads and, as a result, vehicles and motorcycles encountered difficulties in traveling on the roads.

"We are not asking for any preferential treatment, we are simply saying that we are at a disadvantage in Bia West and that we want the road to be repaired.

"Our roads must be repaired, they must be in working order, we can continue, so that referrals from the district to the districts that meet can be done at ease," said the MP.
