The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has organized an environmental campaign on the theme "Pure Ghana, Our Responsibility" for schoolchildren to celebrate this year's citizenship week across the country.
One of these campaigns was organized for the presidential students JEA Mills Basic School in Mamprobi, Accra, to raise public awareness of the need for everyone to get involved. to make Ghana clean and green.
Mr. Francis Ameyibor, deputy editor and executive director of Communication Development for Advocacy (CDA), said during a presentation on how to preserve the environment, said the citizens had a role in controlling and preserving the environment, the environment and health by avoiding indiscriminate waste and properly disposing of waste.
He urged children to act as civic police of the environment of the ANCE countries in order to educate the inhabitants of their communities to the protection of the environment and their protection against communicable diseases.
Mr. Ameyibor also talked about separation and recycling of waste, adding that items such as glbad, paper and plastic waste should be recycled, while unwanted items such as toys and clothes that can be reused. should be sent to second-hand stores for resale or donated.
He noted that proper waste management and disposal would reduce infectious bacterial diseases such as cholera, malaria, typhoid and respiratory allergies, adding that waste pollution was the leading cause of these diseases.
"Avoid throwing garbage or garbage almost everywhere, any pollution can harm the health of your family and your family while destroying the environment," he said.
According to him, the only way to end garbage pollution was to change attitudes and draw everyone's attention to the need to protect the environment and health through concrete and urgent actions. .
He added that citizens directly control and influence the environment to protect or reduce pollution by serving as a watchdog for others in public places. They should therefore keep all their waste and store it at home.
He advised sorting plastics, glbad, paper and other materials in different bins to facilitate waste management and recycling.
Ms. Gladys Osman, NCCE Assistant Program Director, advised students to set up a small business to collect plastic waste from their communities and sell it to generate funds to support civic club activities such as excursions and educational campaigns.
