Bethesda, MD, May 31, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) – The Advocacy Network Against Cancer of the Bladder (BCAN) today announced the recipients of its three Young Investigator Awards for Young Researchers, which have helped train outstanding early career researchers and cancer research researchers who have demonstrated their commitment to improving the understanding and treatment of bladder cancer. Each Young Investigator Award provides a $ 50,000 grant that supports a year of bladder cancer research.
One of the two new investigator grants for new discoveries is presented to Dr. Neelam Mukerjee for her research project "Recombinant CCL2 as a new strategy for treating bladder cancer" and Dr. Sarah Psutka for her research. research project, "Quantification Risk and Resilience in Bladder Cancer Patients: A New Comprehensive and Personalized Risk Stratification Program." New Research Fellowships for Young Investigators for Patient-Centered Clinical Research are Presented Dr. Sumeet Bhanvadia for his research proposal entitled "Understanding the Burden and the Impact of Financial Toxicity in Bladder Cancer – A Mixed Methods Study of 2 Populations of Diverse Patients."

Dr. Mukerjee, BCAN Fellow John Quale Travel in 2017, is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center in San Antonio. His research focuses on how immune cells are recruited into the body's environment. Dr. Psutka is an Assistant Professor at the University of Washington. His research project focuses on the need to define a more objective way for physicians to badess a patient's ability to tolerate surgery. Dr. Bhanvadia is badistant professor of urology at the University of Southern California. His study focuses on badessing the extent of financial toxicity experienced by patients with bladder cancer in a wide range of races, ethnicities, types of Insurance and socio-economic status.
BCAN's mission is to raise public awareness of bladder cancer, advance bladder cancer research, and provide education and support services to the bladder cancer community.
