A workshop on the roadmap for the implementation of the Right to Information Act (RTI) organized by the implementing agency, the Ministry of Information, S & T Is open Thursday in Accra.
Participants were selected from civil society groups and public bodies such as UNESCO, the RTI Coalition and the RTI Media Coalition.
Members of the Parliamentary Committee on Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs also participate.
In March of this year, Parliament pbaded the RTI Act which was approved by President Akufo-Addo last week.
The RTI Act aims to give effect to Article 21 (1) (f) of the 1992 Constitution of the Republic of Ghana which states that "Everyone has the right to information subject to the necessary qualifications and laws of a corporation democratic. . "
It also aims to operationalize the constitutional right to information of the public and certain private institutions, subject to the necessary and consistent exemptions for the safeguarding of the public interest in a democratic state.
At the opening ceremony, Information Kojo Oppong Nkrumah said that the workshop was part of the measures to align the stakeholders on the process before implementing it before the full implementation of the RTI in January 2020.
"RTI is a collaborative product. It is therefore important to bring stakeholders back to the roadmap for implementation, "he said.
Mr Nkrumah said the workshop would also offer participants an opportunity to make suggestions and inputs on the roadmap project for smooth implementation.
