At least five people were confirmed dead in Friday's torrential rain in Takoradi, Western Region.

Director of Metropolitan NADMO Sekondi-Takoradi James Obeng Jnr. Emmanuel Ohene-Gyan, of Empire News, confirmed that the incident took place in Ngyeresia, a fishing community in Sekondi, when a mud house collapsed on a family.

The capital of the Western Region was flooded on Friday, May 31st.

Areas such as Anaji, Effiekuma, Sekondi, Kwansarodo, Intankoful, among others, have been completely submerged by torrential rains.

The streets of the capital, including Bankyease-I Adu, the police district Effiekuma No9 and Anaji Choice Mart were rendered inaccessible by the floods.

Emmanuel Ohene-Gyan, of Empire News, who was monitoring the situation, reports that the police are rushed to manage and order drivers and pbadengers to access safe routes

Ohene-Gyan added that several properties representing millions of cedis have been destroyed as a result of the rains.

A source in metropolitan Sekondi Takoradi revealed that the mayor and some officials would undertake a city tour to badess the damage caused by the rain.

The National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) confirmed that three people lost their lives on Wednesday in Accra.

According to NADMO, even though there might be more damage related to the torrential rain, they do not expect to record more deaths.

Heavy rains have caused the flooding of several places in Accra and surrounding areas. Among the flooded areas of the capital, note the circle and the dome of Kwame Nkrumah.
